Believe

You were bitten
& your heart was hard
But as I do
I gave you a way

In that mist
Which covered your eyes
You saw not,
You perished & died

So simple for you
That you could not see
A rod & a serpent
I only required you look

And why would you not
Just look and live?
Because, dear one,
You did not believe

So believe in me,
Believe in my Son
Study my word
& see what he’s done

Believe all things
The Spirit tells you is true
And give place in your heart
For those things to do

Only then,
through simple means
Can I work in your life
To accomplish mighty things

And one day hence,
As you look back & reflect,
You’ll remember the staff
That Moses held up

You’ll see the way of deliverance
Was always there
Waiting, ne’er forceful,
For all who would care

And because you believed
Your eyes opened wide,
You now experience
The change deep inside

And though life is long
One day we’ll meet
After sorrow & toil
You’ll rest your feet

Right in my kingdom
Right here with me
So keep moving forward
& always believe

As I read through Alma 33:19-20 in the Book of Mormon, it became again clear to me that we do not believe once we see, but that believing opens our eyes to all the possibilities.

Walk with me a minute & consider the blind man who climbed Everest, the highest mountain in the world that people literally die trying to climb. Think about the man who rides his bike around clicking his tongue & echo-locating like a bat so he can “see” where he’s going. How about Rick & Dick Hoyt who have run Iron Man competitions together with Dick carrying, pulling, & pushing his son? Or what about Bethany Hamilton who had her entire arm bitten off by a shark and still competes in surfing competitions?

So, what “disability” do YOU feel you’ve been unjustly given? When you look in the mirror, do you have a hard time believing in yourself? Do you doubt your greatness? Let it go. Look to Him & live. Believe that planted in your very soul are the seeds of greatness, the very divine spark that gives life to everything. You have the seeds of creation built right in. So, when the sea of life seems too fierce, when you mess up, yet again, when you feel you have no strength left, look to to Him, remember who you are & live.

Review: Why We Forgive

Why We Forgive

POWERFUL. All too many of us believe that we accomplish something by holding onto grudges. This talk deeply affected me and a good friend both. Not everyone is ready to forgive others, but if you are, take some time and check out this audio. It clearly helps one to understand the why we forgive. It releases us from pain, hurt and suffering. Like I said: POWERFUL!

Here’s a public talk available by C. Terry Warner that is along the same lines as the talk. For some reason it’s out of sync, so, it may be good to just listen to it:

None Were With Him

“Brothers and sisters, one of the great consolations of this Easter season is that because Jesus walked such a long, lonely path utterly alone, we do not have to do so. His solitary journey brought great company for our little version of that path—the merciful care of our Father in Heaven, the unfailing companionship of this Beloved Son, the consummate gift of the Holy Ghost, angels in heaven, family members on both sides of the veil, prophets and apostles, teachers, leaders, friends. All of these and more have been given as companions for our mortal journey because of the Atonement of Jesus Christ and the Restoration of His gospel. Trumpeted from the summit of Calvary is the truth that we will never be left alone nor unaided, even if sometimes we may feel that we are. Truly the Redeemer of us all said, ‘I will not leave you comfortless. [My Father and] I will come to you [and abide with you].’ “

Three promises came to my mind as I began to ponder and study this talk. They stemmed from a question that I asked myself after I read Elder Holland’s words. The question is, “How can I receive the Lord’s comfort in troubled or lonely times?”

Here are the three promises that sunk into my heart:

  1. aDraw bnear unto me and I will draw near unto you; cseek me diligently and ye shall dfind me; ask, and ye shall receive; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. (Doc & Cov 88:63)
  2. Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and aopen the door, I will bcome in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. (Rev. 3:20)
  3. “I will not leave you acomfortless: I will bcome to you…If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will alove him, and we will come unto him, and make our babode with him.” (John 14:18,23)

I learned the other day in my studies that the Lord extends so many individual promises to all of us. We can know these as we seek to know his will in the scriptures. When we find them we can cling to them with hopeful hearts. AND if we “prove him” by living so that those promises have chance to sprout, we will come to know through the Holy Ghost that he loves us, we will become more fully pure and we will be full of his light.

This said, the Savior’s grace or enabling power comes into our lives and we realize our reliance upon it. None are saved in any other way than by Christ. He makes ALL the difference.

Power of The Word

Through the mists of darkness
there shines a perfect light
To those who hold fast the rod
and seek to follow right

Day by day and hour by hour
we choose our paths, our fate
Joy awaits the faithful
their souls to liberate

Each step we take towards His love
each moment we endure
We’re given strength to lengthen strides
our destiny’s made sure

Within God’s word we find a power –
the truth our heats can see
And through His Son’s atonement
the gift of being free

Just Remember Jesus Christ

When things don’t work out like you planned
When tears fall on your cheek
When all your fears but one have died
And your heart is feeling weak

When the toughest choice you’ll make is made
When you’ve given all that you’ve got
When the heavens seem utterly still
And inside you hope they’re not

When all these things are pressing down
And you need courage to go on
Just remember Jesus Christ
Have faith and carry on

When you loved that one so dearly
Like no one you ever have
But in your heart that door has closed
And there’s reason to be sad

Just remember Jesus Christ
And give your pain to him
For he suffered for your sadness
Not only for your sin

The plan for you is mighty grand
His love for you divine
So just remember Jesus Christ
And trust his love sublime
